What is an emphasis?
An emphasis, like an option or concentration, represents an area of study that shares a common core of courses with the associated major. An option has the least shared core courses with the major, the concentration has a mid-range of shared core courses with the major, and an emphasis has the largest number of shared core courses with a major. Not all majors offer an option, concentration or emphasis. Check with your major academic advisor for additional information on pursuing an option, concentration or emphasis. Additional information about what is available within your major can be found in the university catalog under your major.
